四点金, known as the four item gold is a tradition originated from China's dialect group - Teochew. This derivation came from the architecture structure of houses then which had four elegantly curved roofs that looked like gold ingots. These roofs indicated prosperity of a family and when the mother-in-law gift her daughter-in-law Si Dian Jin, it is a form of telling her that she will always have a roof over her head and will lead a comfortable life marrying into the household. In contemporary context, it is a gifting gesture that signifies a joyous acceptance of welcoming the daughter-in-law into the family . Si Dian Jin usually consists of a necklace, a pair of earrings, a ring and a bangle or bracelet and is presented during the Guo Da Li from the groom.
